when is a male ready to breed?

chris61988kb Jul 13, 2006 11:46 PM

I was told you can get an 06 male to breed if you feed it right? I thought it was more of an 05 for the males to be ready to breed?

Yes you can get an early 06 male to breed for you this season. I've had 300 gram males produce sperm but never tried to breed them that small. It all depends on the males size, age, sexual maturity and willingness to want to breed. Obviously if they are not producing sperm there is no point to breed them.

Also, if the male is producing sperm but is still very young and not very large it may not be a good idea to try and breed him. It could just stress him out.

I've had a few males under a year breed for me. Most produced vialbe clutches while other didn't.

Hope this helps
Tom
