jswllms Jul 14, 2006 12:07 AM

I found a dead snake in my yard, but it's bright blue! Any ideas on what it is??? I have pics if you want to see it.

Here's a little more detail:
The snake was found in South Carolina.
Approx. 18" long.
Body type is similar to garter.
Major Problem: Missing majority of it's head.

Thanks for the help!

Best idea is a green snake (Opheodrys) In life, they are green...dead they are blue.

Greg is probably right about it being a green snake if it was unpatterned blue.

Gartersnakes and Ribbonsnakes will sometimes turn blue as well after death, but you can still see the dark stripes.

There are no stripes, it's solid blue on top with a white belly. The body build is not condusive to a green snake either, the body is about twice as thick as the neck...

I that case, a photograph would be extremely helpful. ~~Greg~~
