Congratulations, job well done !!!! Mike Vince
Congratulations, that's a nice size first litter for a yellow. They are showing very good color as well for newborns. Female Eunectes always come out of births looking pretty thin. Also, I would be very interested in the neonates average length and weight whenever you get the chance. Thanks for posting the photos and great job.
Kelly
Thanks man, I like how you seek information, I haven`t measured them but they seem to be between 16in(probably male) and 18in, when I pick up 2 there is often considerable weight difference between the them. Since spurs aren`t pronounced yet, I can`t say for sure if size difference is related to gender at birth. Is there a broad variance in weight with the greens?..I don`t have scales....lol...but estimate the weigh to be 70...90 g. It seems to be very close to 120 days from pos to birth.....My data is severely limited though lol. Kelly, one thing I noticed was that momma had her head raised 24/7 about 3 inches off the cage floor the last 4 or so days before giving birth
Out of three litters, our neonate greens have ranged from 218 to 286 grams with lengths from 27 to 33 inches. I have checked and never seen any correlation between sex and size at birth, as there were males and females at both ends of the above size ranges. POS is difficult to determine precisely in greens as they can shed anywhere from 1 to 3 times after ovulation. One really unusual thing about greens is the timing of their first shed. We have had neonates with first sheds from 7 to 88 days after birth, and extremely wide variation even within the same litter. Not to mention the extreme variability seen in feeding behavior, also within the same litter. Most snakes are typically much more consistent than this. The raised head behavior is interesting, but I have never seen this with the greens, but have heard of it with other boids. One thing that Jud and I can tell you for certain is that green anacondas are the most unusual snakes we have ever worked with, they seem to defy all the standard behaviors and characteristics you typically see with other boids. Thanks again,
Kelly
