Good Idea

wolfsnaps Jul 14, 2006 09:59 AM

I am a big animal person, have several diff. types of animals. I once worked at a pet store and understand all aspects of basic snake care (also did my homework). I am very interested in ball pythons. I like the elongated heads on them. My question is, do they make good pets even for beginners? I don't want something too big that could overpower me (Im female, 126 lbs.) and will have no help from my fiance who is deathly afraid of snakes (the big chicken!) Any advice, stories, ideas on whether I should invest in this type of pet. It probably won't be for a little while until I move but the idea really excites me.

Thanks!

Tiffany:

Ball pythons in general are one of the most docile snakes in the herp community. They generally have a nice disposition and don't get very large. The largest females I have just reach 5 feet.

As with most snakes ball pythons are very sensetive about having their heads messed with.

I'm sure most readers of this forum would agree that you can't go wrong with a ball python.

Good luck with your decision.

The only human I could see being overpowered by a ball python is a small infant...
and if you are dumb enough to leave an infant unsupervised around ANY animal...you don't deserve pets. Haha.

They make excellent pets for beginer/imtermediate.
They have basic needs, and as long as those needs are met, they are easy to care for.

i dont think you could go wrong with a ball.they are quite easy to take care of and for the most part quite calm.only thing i suggest is to get a good book on them before purchasing and purchase from a reputable pet shop or bp breeder.suggested books are: The Complete Ball Python by kevin McCurley or one of tracy and david barkers books. good luck
