Sad, Sad day for Mystical-Dragons

Mysticaldragons Jul 14, 2006 11:11 AM

Well yesterday I said a final goodbye to a dragon that meant more to me then any other..

Amber was the first dragon I ever purchased, cared for, and loved. I purchased Amber from Pet Smart, and she set forth my passion with Bearded Dragons. See Amber being my first dragon, and me being totally new to bearded dragons, and unknowing that there were breeders actually specializing in dragons I purchased from a chain store, and overlooked just how unhealthy she was from the start. I purchased Amber and had problems after problems. At this time I was doing everything I could to save, and care for Amber, and I started to make contacts with some really special people Cheri Smith, Veronica at Beautiful Dragons, Chris Allen, Dachiu's, gees the list can go on, and on. These people took the time needed, taught, and cared for a species I was simply falling in love with at the time. Simply put I could not have surrounded myself, and learned from any better.

I got Amber healthy, and to the point where she lived a normal, and very happy life, on meds, but very spoiled to compensate for quite a few years. Amber pretty much taught me everything about dragons, from care, treatment, and diagnosis of problems, EVERYTHING. She set forth my goal to provide healthy, quality bearded dragons to my customers, so maybe, just maybe someone else would not have the difficult time I had with my first dragon.

From the experience with Amber I went on to purchase one hell of a collection choosing attributes I thought quality dragons should have, and to this day I continue to build on it.

Although this is a very hard, and sad time... I look back with no regrets, and knowing I did my best for Amber, and her kind. She will always be missed, and remembered as the one who set things in motion for me, and got me interested in a hobby that brings me such joy.

Yes, it's been extrmely hard time. Just got done giving her a proper burrial this morning. When you know you did everything you could, and provided the best you could it makes it slightly easier, but not much. We had lots of good times, and we had bad with her health. I guess I just have to remember the good times, and exactly what she meant to me.

At any rate when I was walking in the house I stopped by the incubator just to see whats doing, and my snakes were hatching!! Nothing can chear me up like the birth of beautiful long awaited reptiles eggs I guess. I figured I had the snakes, and wanted to experiance breeding, and hatching them before I start with the larger species, and projects next season.

These are two little snakes making their way from the eggs. It looks like 1 snow and 1 ghost so far. They are the product of a snow (albino-anery)x ghost (hypo-anery) breeding proving the snow father het hypo, and the Ghost mother het albino Another nice surprise.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I fully understand your committment to this dragon - I, too, have the special one, the first dragon that started the love for me.
At the time I wanted a dragon, only a local pet store carried them in my area (this is before ordering via internet became popular). I got an adult normal male that I was told was set in his ways, would only live in a certain size tank and only eat crickets. The first day he SO enjoyed his new home in my sunroom, and all the greeens and berries I offered him. Seven years later he's the most responsive dragon I have still, wanting to be with his people whenever possible. I wouldn't trade him for the most expensive morph out there.
He needed companionship (and friends wanted a baby from him, since he's so social), so we got the girls. THAT started my daughter's love of the breed, since she bonded with one of the females so thoughly I've had people walk up to me at reptile shows and ask how to get their dragon to be as attached to them as much as my daughter's dragon is to her. She's another one we wouldn't trade for anything.
These dragons steal your heart as much as any pet going!

I so sorry to hear this. Losing any companion is difficult. She leaves a legacy in the form of your business and the knowledge base you learned from her.

By the way, little beardie has settled in nicely and has a voracious appetite.
