Suggestions on pairings?

Dawnrenee2000 Jul 14, 2006 11:53 AM

I have now finished gathering a nice breeder group of adult Black rat snakes and would like to hear suggestions on the best cross pairings for next year. I have:

1.0 Wildcaught Male

0.1 Leucistic Albino

1.0 Leucistic

0.1 Whitesided

1.0 Rusty ( offspring of leucistic male and whitesided fem , which makes him het for both of those traits)

1.1 Albinos but they look REALLY different. One is very light pastel pink with reddish saddles and the other is almost deeply colored orange. I assume one is t+ and the other is t- , so If i cross these I would get double hets for albino but all looking regular.

I have breed kings and milks but not any rat snakes yet. I have my own ideas at the moment but would love some outside input. so what are your thoughts on how to best pair this group up?

Cross your two leucistic snakes if you want snakes that are easy to sell. All offspring should have dark eyes and would be het for albino.

Cross the Rusty with the White sided. That should get you a mix of 50% Whitesided offspring.

There is almost no market for Wild Type Black Rats, but there are a few of us on the forum that do think they are great.

Best of luck with your breeding next year.
