Triangulum morph?

lbrat Jul 14, 2006 01:56 PM

Why don't we see any color morphs available in eastern milks.Would think by now that amel. and anery. would be established by someone.Maybe non ever found?
What ever happened to that calico and hypo that Deptula has?
I hear the indigo guy Dean Allesendrini has a hypo.Chime in if you see this Dean or Walt.I would really like to see pics.

I have seen photos of amel eastern milks. I don't know that they are in captivity, but they have been found/produced. There may have been an article in the Vivarium many years ago about amel easterns.

I think the problem is that easterns aren't very popular in captivity due to the problems with feeding. And the amel easterns were all that spectacular, as amels go.

Don Hamper I think his name was (anyone?) was working with a group of albino easterns years back. Who knows if he still is, but I hear there are people working with them, only time will tell.

Some people don't believe there are pure albino easterns out there. Considering rumors of people breeding the Emory's Rat Snake to eastern milks to create snakes that look like easterns. If you look around a bit, you'll see albino emoryi could pass off as eastern milk snake to someone less experienced.

Don had the albino eastern years before the first albino emory came to light. There were some fertility issues with the strain if memory serves. Now that I think about it they might have been sold out of country to a German collector.

A few years ago Gary Heckenberger from Pa. had a group of adult albino easterns he was getting offspring from.

there is a picture of an amel eastern milk in Bob Applegate's Milk Snake book. I have no idea if anyone is really working with that morph though. It would be cool if they were.

Dean does have a hypo that he caught in Kentucky. I think if you do the search thing under Deans name, there is a picture of it on the forum somewhere. I seen the picture.

Hi lbrat,

Deptula is still working at it, LOL.
It has been the most frustrating project of my life, an absolute Murphys Law kind of deal. If I ever do produce the "Scitico" line they will be exact locality as locality can get as my pair were legally collected from under the same board in 1992. The original male died about 4 years back, probably about 20 years old by my estimation.
He was the wildest looking triangulum I've ever seen and everybody else that saw him in person agreed. He was extremely hypo to the point where his ventral surface was a checkerboard of white and off-white. His basic coloration was golden but he had bright orange speckling all over and purple speckling on his sides.

The whole thing makes me sick but I'm still working at it with het adults. Trust me, you'll see photos up here if it ever flies.

Sorry to hear about the original male.He truely was one of a kind.I remember seeing pics on your site a few years ago.He was the neatest eastern I ever saw.On the other hand, you have hets. to work with.So there is still a possibility you could produce some great looking snakes from them.I wish you luck as easterns are in my opinion, very underated.Something different could spark a new interest.I look farward to the day you show us some hypo-calico offspring.

Thanks, Mike. I'm just happy that people like you remember him. Hopefully it works out at some point in the near future.
