Petco corns

iowapitviper Jul 14, 2006 03:32 PM

Does anyone have any idea what Petcos source for corn snakes is? The first one I purchased was a normal/Okeetee phase? I have sence purchased from Kathy Love and Peter Jolle (Okeetees). I just wanted to try and trace my first ones blood lines.
Thanks in advance

Gormet Rodent supplies many of them. They are from good stock as they sell off the females that average less tahn 14 eggs to clean up there line and keep the ones that come from big clutches.

At least that is what I heard the last time I was in Daytona. That year they sold between 50-100 adult female corn because of small clutch size.

I have a friend that works at Petco, a very qualified reptile specialist (former zookeeper), and yes they do get their corns from Gormet Rodent, as well as their Ball Pythons. They have had some very nice little corns come through!

It seems the big boxes are getting more serious about the snake trade, some nice specimens, care sometimes still seems inconsistent...

All in all I'm glad they seem to be carrying more herp supplies and f/t rodents, and improving the selection of herps.

Here's a candycane hatchling I couldn't resist taking home from a local Petco, purchased 5/31, now 7/15, so 6 weeks difference...

The first photo is the one I took tonight, it's getting pretty "blue":
