Going to Arizona

JKC Jul 14, 2006 07:35 PM

I'm driving to Arizona tonight from Las Vegas. I'll be stopping in Wickenburg for the night and going on to Tucson in the morning. Does anyone know of any good spots around Wickenburg where I can do a little road/field herping?

Just west and a little north of Wickenburg, there is a highway(s) that ultimately lead to Prescott. On that road(s) one July morning, I was amazed at the number of DORs I encountered from the night before. One can assume its good habitat but may be too heavily traveled. Or perhaps the majority of snakes simply crawled off the road....for what its worth

What snakes did you see DOR?

Dunno really. Sorry. I was rolling, so bigger stuff...rattlesnakes, glossy, longnose sized stuff. Just that there was a lot !

just get a decent map an take some of the back highways that head in the right direction, prefferably further west...you can find snakes on the small highways but you might find more alive on some dirt roads branching off of them. have fun. dont get bit.
