right now my argentine B/W is 18 inches long, eating very good, and as healthy as can be. Very tame so far but to small to let rome the house. what is a good way to begin any type of training as too help with a potty trained adualt. an ideas would be great. And also is it not a good idea to hold him after eating because i just did and he sh*t all over me. it smells kinda ranky so id like that not to happen again if possible. Thanks -nick-

good question! i wish i could get mine trained, too. I see you've recently been defiled by your new pet, welcome to the club. And yeah, they have really smelly excrement. It sucks too that they not only $#*^ everywhere, but they pee quite often too, and it's always got this weird white semi-solid in it, too.

Amen to that. I've got a 28" female and I would love to do the same. It would be easy enough to dragon proof my room or apartment for that matter. But I've stepped in his sh*t once and it wasn't pleasan and I'd rather not do it again. IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO LITTERTRAIN A TEGU...PLEASE TELL

Anyone get peed on in the first week of owning a Tegu? I did trying to save my new carpet hehe, least there won't be any stains... but other than that he's pretty good about going in his cage on the sand, so I think that if I put some of the same sand(Cali-Sand Red) in a litter box he'll use it instead of the carpet. If this works I'll let ya know.

"Mouse in, mouse out." Yes, handling right after eating can be bad.

When mine are hanging out on me, they usually make an attempt to get away before they go. They get extra squirmy and there's that "puffy cloaca" 15-30 second warning. My gold actually squeeks if you're holding him and he has to go (quite cute!). And other times they just open the floodgates and make a stinky mess.

Before I take 'em out to the park, pet store, etc., they get warm baths which usually make them go. If they don't, they don't get to go out. It's bad enough being defiled at home, but much worse with an audience!

I believe a few people here have successfully litter trained their tegus, in the classic sense. Perhaps they'll chime in and share their secrets.
