sores on my lizard

cirez Jul 14, 2006 08:27 PM

I came across this page researching my Ophisaurus Apodus and the sores on his back. They start under his scales causing dark discoloration and the scales eventually fall off. If anyone has any ideas, theories or personal experiences with this please respond. Thanks.

I don't know a lot about Ophisaurus Apodus, but I would suggest that you take it to a vet.

Fungal Infections can spread fast and cause skin damage in reptiles that are generally kept in very moist and warm enclosures.

Infections usually start along the abdomen and produce raised brown-spotted scales. If it continues to spread it causes open, weeping wounds in the skin.

Get your guy to a vet and get that treated fast, needs some sort of antibiotic probably orally and ointment for his sores.
Hope he gets well soon, let us know how ya make out.

Thank you. I was afraid of that. I will take him to the vet.

Hope all goes well at the vets! I'd like to hear how it turns out please.

I was told it wasn't serious. to keep the cage warm and dry; put triple antibiotic cream on the wounds, and see what happens. I didn't see a vet but I went to the store where I purchased him. Within two weeks he shed and everything was O.K.
