cage size debate

sweetblood Jul 15, 2006 01:01 AM

I have heard a few diff sizes from 4'x2'x2' 3'x2'x2' and some even bigger for larger females.I feel that a 3'x18"x18" with perches would work for most if not all brb males and a 4'x18"x18" with perch would work for LARGE adult males or large adult females i dont think they would need any bigger than that exspecialy if handled alot. what is everyones opinion.

I know others have them in larger cages but mine are in 2' x 2' x 18" enclosures. They have a moist hide and a large water dish on top so the effective floor space is actually larger. I have them on thermostats and they are doing fine. I am very dilligent about cleaning. Every cage gets checked every day. I do take vacations and plan ahead so they are all voided prior to my trip and not fed again until I return. Kind of a mini fast.

Bigger is most definitly better. Give them a tall cage with plenty of climbing opportunities; my BRB's use all of the 4 ft. of vertical space afforded them. Give them a long, horizontally positioned branch and they'll often be seen lying along it at night. At least this is my experience with these snakes.
These are really beautiful snakes, why not display them?

Hey thanks,
Thats Adam, my first (and still favorite) BRB.
Here's a typical evening shot of him on one side of the cage:

And here's a picture of his daughter Kali (my wife has renamed most of my snakes to Hindu Gods):

And here is a full shot of the cage (again with Adam):

I keep four BRB's in this setup and it is heated by incandescent night lights of varying wattages.
Thanks for looking,
Paul
