schwartzenstobe Jul 15, 2006 10:38 AM

The guys at work found a baby slider at work far from water and knoing I have a turtlae and other reptiles gave it to me it is about 3 inches wide and about 5 inches long. Right now it is in a container with water and some rocks. I was thinking of a 10 gallon for know with filtered water. I was thinking of an internal canister filter. any other suggestions/ I have aquatic turtle pellets, mealworms and roaches. Any suggestions on care would be great. I also have a 1600 gallon pond in my yard with 10 fish and didnt know if that would be a good idea. Thanks in advance. I live in new jersey and found him at the airport I work at. thanks Matt

A 10 gal is way to small for a 5in turtle. It could be wild maybe traveling to lay eggs. Not only that but this thing will get huge. Does your pond have a fence? Or are there things that will eat him if you put it in your pond?

A 10 gal might be fine for now then. However a slider will quickly outgrow this. Try a big rubbermaid container, I have never used them as I find big glass aquariums often. However lots of people have sucess with them.

Pond perfect!!!

But dont put him in there with big ol fish yet, he should be allowed to grow up first, at least 4-5" then put him out there cause koi have big mouths and he could become fish snacks
