wild caught great basin gopher question

edzphatnugz420 Aug 02, 2003 03:26 PM

Hey everyone, about a week ago I found a great basin gopher snake about 2.5 ft long. I decided to see how the snake would do in captivity, so far everything is just fine. Today I fed the snake a live hopper, which it ate but did not constrict first. I thought it was kinda strange, the snake just grabbed the mouse by the head and swallowed it. Any ideas why the snake would not try to constrict the mouse?

There's nothing strange about that. It's not uncommon. I've seen ALOT of Pits do that. I would however suggest you feed fresh killed as opposed to live so the snake doesn't get bit.
