gartner snake or red racer?

gammerus Jul 15, 2006 07:08 PM

He is small, about 14inches long and about as wide as a pencil. He has a green patch on his head. (the picture makes it alittle blurry) I am told he looks like a red racer or a gartner snake, but after googling both I am not sure if he is either.

for the moment we have put him in a makeshift terrerium.

Most likely Sonora...especially if it was found anywhere near Texas or nearby states. Not telling us where it was found sure does limit our ability to give you a definitive answer. There are snakes in other countries that look a lot like that picture.

I zoomed in on the picture and it looks like a striped Groundsnake to me as well. Of course this depends on you finding it somewhere in the western US.

after looking it up I am positive that it is a Sonora semiannulata. Especially since he has been burrowing quite a bit.
