It depends on the quality of the hatchling. You can get one as low as $50 or as high as $500. You ussually get what you pay for. The higher priced IJ's have better color and contrast most of the time. Try to look a pictures of the parents to get an idea of what they may look like as adults. Keep in mind though that even "ugly" IJ's can throw some killer offspring and a $50 hatchling may end up being a trophy as an adult.

Good luck,

How do you determine which ones will be trophys? I have some average IJ's which produced 5 babies, and I want to know if I should keep any. One is brighter than the rest, another has an interesting color to it, but I don't know what will happen as they grow.

From what I have seen with my IJ's is that the lighter ones with the thinnest black banding end up looking the best. this is not easily determined unitl after the 3rd or 4th shed. IMO beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like banded IJ's with very low black and lots of background color.

I like the vividly marked tricolors, like some of the VPI animals. Also, specimens with lots of green, like GQ line.

I would consider these to be slightly-moderately above average. They look very nice, and remind me alot of VPI animals. I wouldn't sell them for $100 in other words...lol.
