Beardie_br0z Aug 02, 2003 04:03 PM

I put my male in my females cage last night and watched to make sure he didnt hurt her. He didnt hurt her and did what he had to do. I kept him in there for about 2 hours and i came downstairs and saw him trying to get jiggy with her again and she was struggling to get away and odviously didnt want to. I took him out after that and put him in his cage. Was this the right thing to do or should i have kept them in there together and not cared what they did? this was both of there's first breeding. Is there anything i have to do since they bred now.. change eating patterns/cage etc..? This is my first time breeding bearded dragons so any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joey

okay...that means the female is not ready to breed yet, meaning she is trying to get away from him. I would put them through a brumation period for about amonth and a half at 5-7 hours a day, and then try again HOWEVER....your female at 330 grams should gain at least 150-200 more grams before breeding in my opinion, or she will have a really heavy toll take from her when laying the eggs, and might have difficulty recovering. usually arm waving means no...idk..are you sure they bred? if they did breed, why are you worrying about her trying to get away? If she has already bred, then she will try to get away from him. Good luck

Hi
i think 18 month is a nice age to breed with.
okay maybe she is abit smaller but i think its ok.
i dont think she wil grow more if she is already 18 month old.

In the 300's is a pretty small dragon to support being gravid and egg production.

BTW, I have 2 2 years old that have put on 100 grams the last month and another two year old that has gained 60 grams and grown 1/2 inch more in 3 months.

Also, a suggestion for the future...... read up and know what to expect BEFORE you breed animals and have to find out what to do next, there is more to successful and healthy offspring besides putting a male and female together, one just takes a pair of hands, the other takes responsibility

Hi
thats a nice age .
normal when you introduce them then use the living floor much space .
then most of time male wil display black beard and wil bobb his head.
the female wil in return make a submisve bow, little bob to the ground and wil wave her arms.
most of time male go for neck bite in it and the tail wil go around the females tail and they wil mate.
also remake the cage so the cage looks strange for both of them.
if the male stay agresif then split them after they have made love.
