Pyxie Frog enclosure

Grunngg Jul 15, 2006 11:34 PM

My Pyxie is still small. Only about 3˝-4inches. What kind of a settup do you guys think is best for these frogs? Right now my frog is in a 20gallon long tank with about 3inches of BedABeast/ReptiBark for its substrate. It's got a water dish big enough for it to sit in completely and a half log hide. Does this sound decent or does anyone here have any suggestions on ways to change my settup. Thanks.

that is similar to my setup, though i would get rid of the repti bark, it tends to mold in moist/humid tanks. you may want to add some plants, but they are for estetic only and some moss, to help hold in humidity/moisture. i find that pixies and pacmans don't have much use for more than basic setups, they spend most of their time either in their water bowls or burrowed in the substrate.

Yep, it sounds good. Although in my tank I still have reptibark and I use it as the first layer of bedding so that my pixie doesnt burrow all the way to the bottom and touches the undertank heater.

I use bedabeast, he eats a ton of it, i would think he would eat a lot of the repti bark...

I feed him using a dull bamboo skewer, so he doesnt have to eat any substrate. Although if a worm manages to fall down to the substrate he'll pick it up with a bit of the bedabeast. I've only witnessed him eating one or two pieces of reptibark and they passed through his body easily.

I'm about to clean out the tank and instead of bed-a-beast and reptibark, im just going to use peat moss. Thanks guys!
