Pics of Fires most appreciated

PythonJoe Jul 15, 2006 11:35 PM

I've seen several fires and "unproven fires" offered in the classified. I'm trying to understand what characteristics are common among fires. They appear lighter with blushing on their backs. What do their bellies look like? What do they look like in normal (not studio) lighting? Side by side with a normal on newspaper? I'm really trying to wrap my head around this one and appreciate any and all help. Pics and explanations (especially belly pics -- can't seem to find a belly shot anywhere) most appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

If you can see a Fire as a baby, it will stand out from normals. They are usually bright (lemon) yellow along their backs with peach or brown sides, with darker brown speckles. All have a certain head pattern too. As adults, they tend to look more like a Toffee colored Hypo.

I recently picked up this male because something about him didn't look quite normal. He's very light when compared to normals, has a light splotch on his head, has some extreme blushing on his back, his eyes look a little lighter than normal, the pattern on the sides of his tail are merged together and look somewhat "bloopy," the dark spots that would be alien eyes seem really odd to me, and his belly looks different -- not solid white like one would expect with a pastel, but similar to the belly shot in the first or second post, above. Obviously, I won't know for sure if he is a fire, a normal or something new, but I thought I'd post some pics and ask for opinions. Joe

Let me know what you think.
Thanks again.

Joe
My first impression is no. But remember there are a lot of variances in many of these subtle codom traits.
breed him to a girl and see what happens. Never hurts to try....

Looks pretty close.I know your sick of hearing it.But you have to breed it and see what babis look like. You will know if it is dom. if so good chance it is also codom meaning their should be a super.I hope this helps but it does look like something going on.It is always worth trying something new.

I would say not a Fire, or Fire look a like, but a nice animal with potential none the less. A keeper for sure. Might be an "ugly" Hypo, so if you do not get anything odd from one breeding, definately breed back to see if it is a simple recessive animal.

I'll dedicate a female or two this coming season to see if there's anything dom / co-dom going on with this guy. If nothing odd comes from it, I'll hold back some females to see if there's a simple recessive gene in play. Wish I could have seen him as a baby. Thanks again for all your help and insights. Joe
