boa cage

yoimb0b Jul 16, 2006 02:06 AM

I made my red tail boa a cage that was 4'x2'x2' about a year ago. He is about 4 1/2 feet long and its a great size cage for him right now. However, I was not aware that mesh instead of glass could cause problems to the boa if he rubbed up against it. Its been a little bit over a year now, and hes had no problems with the mesh, but upon finding out about the mesh problems that can occur, should I change it to glass? He hasnt had any problems, eats healthy, tame as all hell. I was just wondering if I should make the walls glass instead. Please give me some insight, thanks. -greg-

If he's not a nose rubber, then it's not problem (yet) but I would be concerned with the inability to manage relative humidity within the enclosure. How's the humidity in there? How are his sheds? I would chage to acrylic (lighter than glass and less breakable) for humidity's sake.

give him plexiglass. it will also help hold heat a humidity better and you won't have to look at a nose rub later either.
