Vivarium set up ok for a corn?

railrider1920 Jul 16, 2006 03:59 PM

Hi,
I have some glass that was cut to make a fishtank. some if it got chiped and I don't think it would be good enough for that anymore.
I'm thinking about putting it together for a couple of corns. It would be nice tank with a vivarium type setup: plants, rocks and limbs. That type of thing.

Would an enclosure like this be ok for a corn? It would be about 25-28 gallon tank. about the length of a 20 long, but the front of it comes out at an angle. I think that they are called a flat back hex. Kinda like the diagram pictured at this website:

Any thoughts on a setup like this?
Thanks,
Rob

A corn snake should be fine with this type of enclosure, with the following provisions ...

Only one corn should be kept in an enclosure. They're not an overt danger to each other, but at feeding time if they both latch onto the same mouse one might swallow the other. Also, if one is very exctied after having eaten and smells a mouse on the other, they might strike each other. There's also the danger of unexpected pregnancies and all the trauma that involves. (Believe me, I speak from experience, I tried keeping two corns together.)

So one corn snake. Trust me.

Aside from that, as long as the enclosure is escape-proof and has a heat lamp and water, should be fine. Just choose plants that are tough enough to handle a big snake crawling around on them.

Personally, I think this kind of setup would be awesome. Let me know if you get it set up, and how it turns out!
