Genetics anyone?

This...

bred to this...

produced this...

Now the 'black' basins that I have didn't start turning black until about two years of age. This baby is almost a year old but is showing good black already. Hopefully this little guy will take after his mom and turn black. Any thoughts?

Matt,

Since my little guy was a normal red baby, and looked like this at 2 years of age:

And now looks like this:

I'd say yours SHOULD get dark. I sure hope it does inherit that color, so I can be more confident that is is inheritable. I plan on pairing mine within 18 months with a lime yellowish female, maybe get some possible hets to breed back to him? Who knows, I know these black animals have the most irradescence of any tree snakes out there, and are the prettiest of snakes in my opinion(We're biased though aren't we?)

Yeah I hope he will get dark...that would be nice. The mom's next breeding will be with this guy. The babies should definately turn black with this pairing...

I cant believe NOONE snatched that snake when you had him up for sale last year. were there any offers but you came to your senses????? That is the MOST recognizable Northern that I can think of. Both unique and gorgeous.
Of course, Matts' Black Basins are simply out of this world also and we are all crossing our fingers that they all turn black.
photos never do these guys justice.

I came to my senses last year when I was going to sell him, actually had a deal that should have went through on a trade but it never did. I don't regret it though. I'm just glad that I have a unique animal and am excited to be able to work with him. I just wish I had about 10 females of age laying around.

After seeing the pic that Matt just posted though, I am drooling. That animal is BLACK! Matt, post some more pics of those guys!

Here is another male from the black litter. He is showing a good amount of black already...not bad for only a year old!
