Between the eyes (food)

VaranusAqua Jul 16, 2006 05:07 PM

I have had bearded dragons many years ago... sadly i was young and immature and got rid of them for something "better."

But now i have gone through many and now at more a mature age have purchased a few nice color morphs(three babies, one yellow, two red). I went on a breeder care sheet cause thats what i inted to do(breed), and read about not feeding crickets bigger then the space between the eyes of the dragon... When doing this comparison is it the width or the length of the cricket that needs to be smaller then the space between the eyes.
thanks

Between the eyes..not long ways..sideways.I feed my baby beardie fruit flies and 1 week old crickets..he is about 7 inches..

umm... so the girth of the cricket should fit between the eyes?

I have always gone by the girth. Since that is the way the crix go down if it fits between their eyes they can eat it. Many others go by length. I feel that if you have proper heat and light ((105-115F and UVB, slightly larger prey items are ok. I use roaches that are easier to digest.

THe way I understand it, you go by the length of the cricket, not the girth. A full grown cricket would still fit between the eyes of a hatchling if you go by girth. At least I have not seen a cricket wider than a quarter inch girth wise.
