Escape!

Geckofanatic23 Jul 16, 2006 10:21 PM

I really need help. My Cal-King, by far my favorite snake in my collection, has disappeared. I discovered this early Satudray morning, and have been looking nonstop since. She is about 16" long, which is making her much harder to find. I've looked everywhere in my room, but yesterday, to make matters worse, my dad said that he thinks he saw her in the hall outside the room! So now that little is snake is probably anywhere in the house. Can anyone tell me how I might be able to find her? Thanks a bunch for any suggestions!

Check and close off all vents on the floor.

When I had a larger one escape, I was looking down - she was up (found her wrapped around the rod in the closet). Your snake is probably low, but don't neglect that they can climb.

With an escape, its often easier to trap a snake than just find it. I use strapping tape with the bends bent over so teh sticky side is up. Place it in several places along the wall (and by the door) and check it often. If the snake gets caught on it, he should be fine. Dribble vegetable oil on the sticky part of the tape and it peels right off.

The only problem with a tape trap is that we have dogs and cats. She would be out in the open and helpless if she got snared. I have seen some alternative traps in some corn snake books that would keep her out of larger animal's view if she got caught. Thank you for your help!

I had and escaped red milk snake loose for about a week in the garage. It escaped out of my rack, which was right in front of the garage side door with a 1" gap under it. It had been raining alot so I thought it still might be in the garage somewhere. I looked high and low for it, but no luck. I had a few baited hides with f/t mice, but no luck. I was unthawing about 20 mice in warm water one evening and thought I'd give it one more shot, I took a piece of drift wood and dip one end in the water I was soaking the mice in, and then stuck it in to a small paper bag. The next morning I pick up the bag and dump the wood out, and here comes the milk sliding out right behind the wood. You might try spotting a few of those around, I think the snake feels secure once it's in the bag and stays there.

Good Luck:
