First Gecko, need help!

graphicassult Jul 17, 2006 12:33 AM

Ok, so i've had my leo for a week now and love him. The problem is it seems lately that hes not getting around much and I cant really tell if hes eating much at all. I notice a few crickets being gone and maybe a few mealworms...

I think its basically I'm paranoid because hes still a baby. Lately hes been hiding behing his moist hide in the hotter area and when i look at him hes starring at me. In the mornings when his light comes on he seems to try to climb towards it too. Today hes not even gone into the cooler zone of the cage. (its a 10 gal. aquarium)

I just want to make sure he or she is healthy and doing fine for such a small animal.

Thanks guys!

What's your tank temperatures (from hot to cold, measured on the floor itself, not just air temp). It may be cold in there.

Ok, so i went and bought an undertank heater for my gecko. Hes been a little bit more active and all, but i cant seem to get him to eat, and it looks like hes having the runns, Whats wrong with my baby leo?

One of mine had the same problem when I got him a few weeks ago. I took in a sample of his fecal matter to the vet to be tested and it came back negative for parasites (perhaps a good thing to have checked in this case anyway). It may be stress causing the bad symptoms. Some of that stress should go away as he/she settles in and correct temps probably would help some.

Just to be safe I'd take in a fecal sample in to the vet for testing. It'll probably cost about 35 bucks to do. It's a good opportunity to hunt around for a decent reptile vet while you're at it because most normal vets don't know enough about reptiles to handle the more "special" problems. You may need one later and trying to hunt around for one in an emergency will be much more difficult.
