best subtrate option

i would to use mud or something besides coco fiber for a subtrate. western toads tend to dig durrows and coco bedding gets all over them. is there any way i can use mudd or is coco my best option.

mud isn't really good cause it is actually pretty hard, it's just wet compacted dirt with some water on top of it. it also starts to smelly awful after a few days. it can harvest bacteria that is harmful to your frog too. i would go with coco stuff, or some kind of expanding dirt.

Cocfiber. As mentioned, mud is soil and water. Soil reacts to decaying plant material and wastes and actually makes harmful bacteria. Cocofiber reacts differently, breaking down the decaying plants and wastes safely.
The cocofiber usually falls off my toad as he dries off from being buried. Plus I have alot of bushy plants in his tank and as he's moving through them they help clean him off.
