How can I improve my tank?

Melisssss Jul 17, 2006 06:00 AM

I use a heat lamp and UVB during the day to keep the tank 80-84 degrees. At night I use the smaller 75w blue heat bulb for viewing. When my bedtime rolls around all lights and heat go out. The heat runs 13 hours with the UVB and usually for another 3 hours the heat is on with the blue light. I mist 2x a day but trying to cut back some due to standing water in the gravel under the dirt. My substrate is bed a beast mixed with organic soil. I have a layer of river rock covered with some nylon screen beneath the substrate mixture. My plants have had a rough start but they seem to be coming around now with the UVB light.

if you really want to improve it i would make a background of corc bark or great stuff. i am currently doing this witha 10 gallon hex. tank. i will post pics when i am done. this is a big project so if you don't do that i would put some tall plants in it. good luck and contact me if you have any questions.

I agree with either a cork background or tall plants, there's so much space that they could use at the top. If you go with plants you could just get a paper background and tape it to 3 sides. Also you can glue a "pot" higher up on the back wall to plant a vining plant.

Just be carefull that the top screen isn't getting too hot in case one gets up there, they burn easily. I'm assuming that those are gauges in there (temp and humidity), if not you need those.
