A fun surprise! Pastel Ghosts ....

Amanda_Burke Jul 17, 2006 10:24 AM

We breed boas and although we have a few BP's that we have been attempting to breed for a few years, any that we've produced have been purely accidental! lol
Anyway, a few years ago we bought a female that we thought was a really nice light colored normal. We had her for a while and then as she grew and we went to the shows and saw some Ghosts online, we started to think she looked like one. We bred her to a pastel and kept her son to breed back to her, figuring at the least, it would produce some nice looking babies. This year we paired them up, and we ended up with what we have been told are Pastel Ghosts! We were thrilled, considering we have NO idea what we are doing when it comes to ball pythons! lol
We didn't get any regular Ghosts in the clutch...do the Ghosts look really different from the Pastel Ghosts as babies? I have heard people talk about orange ghosts and green ghosts...are those just different looks and are they compatible? I'm not sure what kind of Ghosts these would be. I would love to see pictures if anybody has some.
Anyway, thanks for looking and for any clarification you can give! Like I said, Ball Pythons are like completely foreign territory for me! lol
Here are some pics from right after they hatched:

Here are some post shed pics:

These little guys are feisty too, which I always think is so funny coming frome a little ball python! lol

Nice to see you in the BP forum. I have been checking out your boas for years congrats on the pastel ghost should be compatible with most lines of ghost/hypo(yellow, butterscotch, green, and probably orange but not all citrus, burgundy,ect.. would be a ? not all lines have been crossed to see. Yours seem to be common line yellow or butterscotch they are very nice. So does this mean we will see more of you on the BP forum if you think Boa Morphs are complicated(in ref. to type 2 post) wait tell you get into BP genetics.
Here is a Butterscotch as a baby

now at 600 grams he has lightened up some

outside after shed

IMO POG or Pastel Orange Ghost make some of the nicest Pastel Ghost hopfully someone will post pics.

being more complicated than boas, that's for sure. I didn't even have ANY idea that there were that many different kinds of ghosts! lol I do lurk on this forum because I like to check out all the beautiful morphs that you guys all produce, but I must admit that I still have no idea what 99% of them are!
That is a really beautiful butterscotch ghost that you posted! I don't know how much they vary, but the mother of our babies doesn't have all the yellow that yours has. I will definitely have to post pics of her to get opinions on what kind she is. Maybe green??
Thanks for your input Vince! I appreciate it!

know we have them because we never produce anything with them! lol We have a freedom breeder ball rack full of mostly normals with a handful of morphs, but this year is the first year we had more than one random clutch from them. And, to be honest, we still aren't really sure what we did right! lol
Hope everything is going well with you and hope to see you in Daytona again this year!
