First colubrid hatchlings!

metalpest Jul 17, 2006 12:53 PM

Finally, after 65 days of incubation my first clutch of pueblans hatched. After day 60 I was checking on them constantly wondering if they were still good, but all 8 hatched out by the 15th (laid 5-8). Funny thing was, when they pipped on the 14th the mother was laying her second clutch for the year! I snapped some shots of mom w/eggs but they all fuzzed, so here are the fresh hatchlings (first 5 that is, camera memory filled, more shots later).

Fianlly, my favorite. This one has a kind of halloween look, but there is a small amount of red banding. Possible holdback.

Forgot a shot of the little guys pipping:

Finally, a shot of mom. Dad won't hold still for a pic but he is a typical apricot.

What kind of incubator did you use and what temperature did you incubate them at (or temperature range)?

Hovabator, 81-84 degrees. 100% hatch, not bad. Waiting on one more pueblan clutch and a cal king clutch in same incubator, which have hit 60 days now.

Beauties! You've gotta love the sight of those little noses sticking out of the eggs! I've got about another 30 days to go on my peublan clutch and its killing me...

I know how you feel on that one! I've got another 60 on the newest clutch, plus one more small clutch expected in a few days.

Congratulations! Have you got any plans for the babies. Love to buy one off you, but the wife would kill me!

I'm going to try to learn to sex and then to ship so I sell in the classifieds, but most will probably be wholesaled. I might just keep the halloween though. Original plan was to get a booth at a reptile show, but my blue beauties failed to lay eggs and they would have accounted for the majority of my offspring.
