two questions

i am still working on my tank design and was wondering first if putting flexwatt on the bottom of the shelf would head not only the surface above but also bring up tha ambient heat of the air below to eliminate need for a heating element below. second once polystyrene and the foam in a can stuff are a fire hazard even after they have grout over them?

You will see a some increase in temps below the shelf. How much depends on how far it is from the floor below, what the shelf is made of and what lies below it.

Sorry, forgot question #2. I'm sure grout increases the fire resistance of a faux rock mix but I have no idea how much. The thicker you put it on the safer it should be.

I finally made it back home and was able to go out out to LLLreptile. I took my design with me and after talking to them for a little while, we decided to go with an rhp and few uth. a funny thing happened half way through where the guy that was helping me told me to go to a website called kingsnake.com and talk to a guy named chris harper. I laughed a little and thought awsome one step ahead. thanks for all the help. hopefully once i get done with the cage ill be able to figure out how to post pictures and let you all see.
