Hey,

I was looking through some of the 2005 archives (end of August) and noticed that you posted a message called "I'm such a sucker" or something similar. It talked about you increasing your collared collection from 2 to 9, as you had rescued some very poorly ones (one was gravid and another had a severe eye infection) from a reptile exhibition. You were taking all your new ones to the vet and didn't think these two would make it.

I cant find ANY more posts for the rest of 2005, and I really want to know what happened to those guys. Those posts really pulled on my heart strings.....Were they ok?

Oh, Hey

Thanks for asking about these guys. I'm glad I checked in the forum today--I've been so busy I haven't much time to read posts lately.

The lizards that I rescued have all survived. The very--I mean VERY sick one that I named "Millie" (for the spanish word milagro, or "miracle" ) tried her darndest to give up on me, but I refused to give up on her.The picture in the middle is from the day after she arrived. After it was all said and done, she lost all but a stub of one of her front feet (see the bottom picture), and some toes off the other, but it doesn't seem to slow her down. Once I managed to clear her of the very stubborn infection that she harbored, Millie ended up being one of my healthiest and hardiest lizards in the group. She has good body condition and she's very sweet. The top picture of her is the most recent one I have.

As you can see, the before and after pictures are amazing!

It's kind of you to care about my guys. I'll tell 'em you asked about them

Wow the difference is amazing, I guess you're a real good mom, and such a massive improvement in less than a year, I'm really glad she was ok, and I'm glad you were a "sucker" the day you bought them!

You should be proud of yourself.

Want to hear something really strange? I used to know a horse called Milagro when I lived in tenerife, also Millie for short. She was born sickly and rejected by her mom, we never thought she'd make it but she did! I saw her again a few years ago and she's still with the same owner who competes in dressage with her, she's a grade C champion at 7 years of age, and completely full of herself.

I'm going to my first reptile exhibition on Saturday, hopefully I'll come home empty handed, but you never know.....

LOL, I got a wobbly chin reading that message, and my mascara is all over my face :0)

That will teach me for reading the forum at work.

Seriously though its good to see there are people with the relevant experience out there who care enough to walk this earth without their eyes blinkered. You did good with them, and not just Millie but all of em. )

You are very sweet to say so. Thank you Millie really makes me proud.

By the way, unless you have room for more critters, I'd think twice about that reptile show if I were you!

As well as collared lizards we also have rough green snakes, a tarantula, 6 scorpions and a few other nasties to boot. My other half is arachnid mad. We only have two reptile shops in the Birmingham area (I live in the UK), and there's all sorts of stuff he wants to look at, we dont have room for more pets and nothing to put them in anyway, but I figured it could be an interesting day out

At least collared lizards are quite few and far between here in the UK, and therefore the chances are we wont be getting any more unless Yoshi ever lays the eggs she's been carrying for the last 3 weeks, though even that looks doubtful

That's funny that you mentioned living in the Birmingham area. I live about an hour south of Birmingham, too . . Birmingham, Alabama, that is

Wow, My partner has a cousin in Bham Alabama. Their accent is ever so slightly different to ours though. Lots of peeps think all brits speak like Hugh Grant but not the case !!!

Ever heard a georgie speak? Even I find it funny and I'm british meself!

PS: If you ever saw Harry Potter.... Mr Weasley has a faint Birmingham accent. I have to say I dont know the difference between american accents, only northern and southern, and NY gangsters talk different too!!
