fat pads on top of head sunken in--help?

beardiedragon Aug 02, 2003 06:06 PM

Since there are soooo many knowledgeable and helpful folks here (thanks for all the help so far), maybe someone can answer this one.

I have a female about 18 months old. During breeding season, the fat pads on top of her head became sunk in. at first I thought she was gravid and maybe dehydrated but apparently not. She seems fine, runs around, eats great, drinks, bathes and for all intensive purposes shows no sign of any problem. Should I be concerned?

if not i would get one, these guys can be pretty reslinat and she may be loaded up with parasites and not able to get all the nutrients from her food before the little worms and protazoa snatch it up.

if you have a clear fecal i may have to think on this one.

i assume you supplementing with good vits and calcium ect.
let me knwo about the fecal

Breeding season can stress a female out a lot and they can lose "fretting weight", besides the egg production is very draining on their bodies, using fluids, calcium and other nutrients that would normally have been used by her system. She needs all the good salads and protein in superworms, silks or crickets she can get plus extra supplements until she regains the fat pads and weight. You might also want to think about cycling her out of next seasons breeding.

Make sure a female is in perk health and has a good fat pad store before breeding and don;t keep them in with the male to help avoid this in th future.

Good luck with her.
