suggestions on feeding baby slider

schwartzenstobe Jul 18, 2006 09:11 AM

Hi all, found a baby slider about 1.5 inches in length. I have been doing research and I am not sure how to offer food. I have alot of feeder insects roaches, mealworms, silkworms and supers. I have had him since Friday and I have fed him every day. I have just put roach nymphs right and the water and he has ate them yesterday I cut up some greens and fruit and putit on his basking rock and today I dropped in some turtle pellets from zoo-med. Am I doing o.k.? Shopuld i putthe food in the water? What should be a schedule for greens, proteins and such? Thanks Matt

Yea, I think you are doing just fine. Since a red eared slider's tongue can only function when underwater, it'd probably be easier for the turtle to just offer the food in the water. Offer as much green matter as the little dude can eat...which probably won't be very much. Red eared sliders develop a greater interest in vegetables as they grow older. good luck!
