pied marker

big-dog Jul 18, 2006 10:13 AM

Can someone tell me what the pied marker looks like? What does a yellow belly look like? Does it truly have a yellow belly? I have a friend that has a ball which she claims has a very yellow belly as if you painted it on. Also,Can someone tell me what a reasonable price is for a 66% het pied would be? Thanks!

Pied marker - white belly three scales wide on the lower third of the snake solid black scales running up the sides.

Good price for a 66%er $300-$400 for a female, males - get a 100%er for $200

Yellowbellies - lotsa good pictures on the hunters guide:

Do you absolutely have to have those markers to identify it as being a het. I have some 100% hets bought from very reputable breeders that does not have those exact markings but were bought as a 100% het, back a few years ago when they still ran in the thousands. I have yet to prove it out but have 7 eggs incubating now. Thanks

My 100% hets do not have those markers.

But then what do I know? They only produced 5 pieds!

Maybe hers do.

I had a conversation with Pete Kahl last year and he said some have markers and some do not.

Nice pied Rick!

I produced 7 100% het Pieds last year and not one had the "het Pied markers".

The sire is a Pied bred to a regular female.

I also have two 100% Het Pied females I purchased from Pete Kahl and neither have "marker traits"

I want to note that I have some pastel siblings that have what people call the het pied marker traits.

Not set in stone

You are so correct!! My 3rd egg out of seven just slit its egg. I peeked in and it is a pied! Not to get all touchy feely on ya but I am so proud! Hopped up and down like a fool. What a thrill!

Congratulations !!!!

And yeah - the whole marker thing is hit or miss - I have more normals with the marker than I do het pieds - I guess if you were picking out possible hets it'd be extra incentive - but in no way a sure thing!!

Congrats again - looking forward to seeing picts when it comes out!
