Dbl Het Snow & Albino question...

tcdrover Jul 18, 2006 12:50 PM

If I breed a male albino to a double het for snow boa.

What would the results be?

Would half be albino?

Would they all be het for snow? Would I be able to distinguish
the non-albino hets?

Is there a way to tell which Albino's are het for anery?

Since the Male is Albino, all babies would get an Albino gene from him. The female would pass 50/50 Albino/normal as well as 50/50 Anery.

End results:
50% Albino, 50% het Anery
50% Normal, het Albino, 50% het Anery

I have not heard of a marker for Anery

Ok well my pairing was a DH for snow male with an albino female

Which resulted in 12 babies 6 albinos and 6 normal looking.

Now if only I knew what price to put on them. Guess thats what happens when ya work mainly with monitors and only dabble with everything else.

pick which normal looking ones are actually the dbl hets?

Congrats on the sweet looking litter. Six albinos will buy a lot
of monitors...

I'd really like to breed for an eventual snow but I don't want
to keep all the babies and start a boa colony...

Raise all the babies and mate them to anerythristics or heterozygous anerythristics. Any that produce anerythristic babies are heterozygous anerythristic.

All other methods that I know are only 50% correct over the long haul.
