possible pregnancy???

flbriaz Jul 18, 2006 03:29 PM

My friend has had a cb male Nigerian for about two years and got a small cb mali (sex unknown) about a year ago, too. They've cohabitted since without problems. Many times sharing dens and even basking upon one another. They were recently put through a brumation period.

About a month ago the mali began to put on weight and has continued to increase in size, but he/she is not obese looking like a few of the other pregnant pics i've seen. My questions are; how long are uromastyx pregnant for? and are there any other signs rather than weight gain that tip-off pregnancy? Thanks all.

If you do a google search for "uromastyx gestation" it pops up with all kinds of information about breeding, including that they will carry eggs around 4-6 weeks.

Your friend has a nigerian and a mali - two different species. I don't know if the two are close enough to reproduce. Maybe someone else knows this, but I kind of doubt your friend has a gravid mali.

Hmmmm... After seeing a Woma/Carpet cross last year at Daytona & the mutt Honduran Milk/California Kings, I'm thinking most anything is possible!

I've seen crossbred uro's before.

My friend told me that they had a scuffle about a week ago. The only one ever and now the mali does not let the male niger into her hide at all.

Maybe the problem is that the Mali is a male and he has become the dominant one and is eating more.

It's possible, maybe. However, the mali is about 1/2 the size of the niger (just getting wider), and both have very healthy appetites.

Does anyone know how to tell if a female is gravid?
