FL Press: Snake Bites Woman a 2nd Time

Jul 18, 2006 07:39 PM

WLTV (Jacksonville, Florida) 17 July 06 Snake Bites Woman a Second Time (Mark Spain)
Jacksonville, FL: Unwanted guests are showing up and slithering their way into the Bailey Family home. They're not nice either.
"I've never been stuck with a hot poker, but if I had to imagine what it felt like that would be what it felt like," said Alicia Bailey.
Bailey told First Coast News that last Thursday a reptile buried its fanged head into her arm.
"It came up at an angle. And that's a two-inch bite span," said Bailey.
Bailey has actually become a Water Moccasin magnet. "I look at everything... behind everything... under anything," said Bailey.
Nearly one year ago, a snake bit her on the leg when she was using the toilet. They never found it. But this time a snake found its way into her son's bedroom.
"I was tucking him in and something bumped my foot. And I reached down to pick it up. I don't know whether it was a toy or shoe. And I instead grabbed a Water Moccasin," said Bailey.
"She grabbed it and ran it out to the front yard and put it out," said Tyler, Bailey's son.
The odds of two snake bites in a year's time are rare. "They said it was like hittin' the lottery while being struck by lightning. The odds are just heard of," said Bailey.
The family hopes someone can get in touch with them for a snake remedy.

Sounds to me like the son is keeping snakes under his bed! If not, she needs to invest in some doors for the house!

Do cottonmouths even get big enough to have a 2 inch bite span(I'm assuming they meant between the fangs?) If their mouth is bigger than I thought fine, but it sounds a bit wide to me.

Extremely unlikely. A cottonmouth bite can be told from a rattlesnake bite by the size of the puncture(s). The cottonmouth has thicker fangs than the rattlers. ~~Greg~~
