goblin666 Jul 18, 2006 09:00 PM

i am wanting to breed big mama, the top photo. how can i go about finding out if she has a recessive gene to produce a morph both are females and i think will make an intriging clutch from both of them i am searching for the right male to put with her in november. if anyone can help me identify what i can get out of them ...you will be my livesaver before they go to bed in november..

What makes you think she is anything other than normal? Are you just hoping to get lucky? If you are thinking you can just pick a male that is het for some random reccessive trait to breed her and get a morph you are mistaken. Your chances are almost zero but I guess anything is possible. Maybe I just misunderstood your question, but if you breed a male het to her you will get all normal looking babies that are possible hets. Good luck

thanks but yes it was misunderstood. big mama just shed and i will be putting more pics of the markings on her.she hass white coming out in her dark areas as a dominate, but as you said anything is possible. she has carmel spots inbetween every mark on her back were it should be dark brown or black.single white scales in her dark areas, though there is only two or three.we only have one vet in kingsport that will do anything to a snake,i still have to find out what they will do for them.i would like to know the gentics.but she is an unusal normy, ive seen a lot in this area and none come near her colorations and markings.

that's the great thing about ball pythons, they are all variable and unique. it could take a life time to breed her to each and every known simple recessive morph and possibly you might get lucky but more than likely not. If you want instant gratification, buy a pastel male as they are barely more than a het albino male now. Or you can spend a few hundred more and get a yellow belly male, both would be very good purchases with the possibility in the future to hatch out some stunning super forms.
