No they are all protected I believe.

Like in Florida where you can't legally breed them but for a nominal fee you can kill hundreds. In other states where they are native again you can't breed them but killing them is FREE!

In Florida you must have a special permit to keep these tortoises. One of our Jacksonville Herpetological members who is a teacher at a local High school has such a permit. He is allowing his students to experience real science studying these magnificent tortoises. Check this link out and follow the gopher tortoise logo at the top of the page..Good Day- Richard
