my newly built hatchling rack

adamjeffery Jul 18, 2006 10:21 PM

i decided it was easier and lighter not to put full sides on and i have yet to order my flex watt, but i built this rack which holds 20 boxes. its 15 inches deep, 3feet long and 2 feet high(these are off the top of my head). the boxes are o;d discontinued rubbermaids. they are about 3-4 inches tall 8 or so inches wide and i believe 13 inches long.

Hey!, I like the simplicity of that design! Thanks for an idea! jeff

adamjeffery Jul 19, 2006 07:33 PM

yeah its a pretty simple plan also, all i did was lay one sheet of melamine on the floor, then put my tubs on it and a thin piece of cardbord(1/8" and then another piece of melamine. i kept dpoing this until i had all the shelves i wanted. then i measured the sides and cut some 1x2's to fit and used a brad nailer to hold them in place. after everthing was square and level i pre drilled 2 holes per 1x2 and screwed them down. i made sure that i left 3.5 inches of space twords the back of the rack for flex watt(which i need to buy) and voila!! it cost about 40-50 bucks after all was said and done and only took about 30 inutes to assemble which includes predrilling.

of the discontinued rubbermaids, in case you need to replace any boxes. Otherwise you will have to try to find another brand or model to match the original boxes.

i actually was given these boxes for free from another breeder because they were discontinued. if i find anymore i will definetly buy some but at this point i can redo the rack for differant tubs with minimum cost and a little labor.
im not sure of what tubs these are i will see if any of the labels are legible enough and try and get a nuber so i can look for more.
thank you for the advice,
adam
