Snakes and drums?

um Jul 18, 2006 10:46 PM

Does anyone hear have snakes and drums. I have a drumset and am getting a kingsnake in august. I'm worried that the vibrations from the drumset will bother the kingsnake? Any ideas?

My little brother has two russian tortoises, one three toed box turtle, and two scorpions (not sure what kind, body shape of emporer - but they are wild caught by me in the national forest in trinity mountains - apparently there are many species of north american scorpions and it is difficult to identify them)

My other little brother has a drum set in the room next door (there is a shared bathroom between them).

His terrapins and scorpions seem to be doing just fine.

It all depends on how hard the drummer hits. It is the high pressure and db level of the snare that would disturb them most. When I had a set to play near my snakes I would notice a lot more movement. The lower frequencies probably cause increased movement as well. I would recommend setting up as far away as possible.

My 20 year old son has his drums in his room in our basement and he wails the livin crap out of them.Rocks the whole house.I will not let him play on feeding day as well as when a female is about to drop eggs.It may not effect them, but I noticed that all my snakes pace thier cages when he plays.
My ball pythons will not feed when he plays.

Of course it will affect them, duh!!! They pick up on vibrations that you can not even hear. They are probably affected when your neighbor plays drums! They feel thunder, large trucks, closing doors, probably even your footsteps. Sometimes a snake will sit real still like it could care less, when in fact it is “scared stiff”. Watch and observe tongue flicks. Sometimes, all you will see is the flicks get faster. That being said, I guess most of them “get use” to us humans and all our noise (vibrations).
