Gravid Chuckwalla

calemalus Jul 18, 2006 11:19 PM

I have a gravid chuckwalla and I believe she is going to lay soon. Does anyone have advice what I should do next. I have her in a large glass aquarium. Do I need to put her in soil to dig like a beardie or just leave her in the sand. Any info would be appriciated.
Thanks,
Cale

I believe that Tom Greb posted previously that they need an area of moist sand deep enough that they can completely bury themselves in which to lay. Maybe a search of the forums will turn it up?

Good luck!

Put in a plastic shoebox with a hole in the upper side big enough for her to crawl into. Fill the box 3/4 full of very fine slightly moist sand. You don't want it saturated nor too dry. I then place it in the enclosure and place the female in it. She will know how to get out and this way she knows where the sand is. The has always worked for me. Others may have different opinions/experiences. You will know when she has laid the eqqs because she will be extremely skinny.

Thanks, that is extremely helpful. I am going to try it out.
