SUPER MOTLEYS !!!!!!!

millenniummorphs Jul 19, 2006 12:36 PM

Well last night was a moment we have been waiting for, for a long time. One of our female Motleys dropped her babies, and had a great litter. We did not know what to expect from her because she was only 18 months old, but she did quite well. We bred her to a Motley male and finally got the SUPER MOTLEY that me were trying for.

I will post a pick of the litter tonight. Our odds were not that great, but it does not really matter to us. We just wanted a BLACK snake. She did produce a good number of normal Motleys in the litter so I guess that was good.

We have some more female Motleys that should drop supers for us this year, so we will have our fingers crossed and hope for some better numbers this time. Take care. .....

please tell me this is a mis-type, and you did not breed a female at the age of 18 months. if you did, you should be rather disapointed in yourself for risking the health of a snake.

I'd like to think this was a Type-O too. I'd hate to think that people actually breed their females at 18 months.

Mother nature doesn't ask an animal how old it is before it can breed. If an animal is able to breed in the wild, it gets bred! Humans are the only ones that put limits or laws on whats proper! Most people can't even breed boas so who is to say it's wrong!

Thank you ....well stated

It was not a typo. Yes I bred a female at 18 months. I do understand that 18 months is young to breed, and if I felt that her life was in jeopardy I would not have bred her. I have been breeding boas close to 20 years and honestly feel that in some cases it is ok to breed a female at 18 months. It all dependes on the animal. This particular girl was and amazing feeder from the start and was close to six feet at a little over a year. I was debating on breeding her in december, until she started really putting on the body weight. By the end of February she was better looking than half the adults that were 4 years old and breeding. So I put her into the breeding program. And sure enough, she had a great litter and produced the SUPER MOTLEY! She is doing excellent now and is going to be back on feed shortly.

Please understand that this is not something I do all the time, and would never jeopardize the life of an animal. I held off on breeding about 6 more females due to there size and age last season. Hopefully you can now understand why she was bred at 18 months.

You do not have to explain yourself....you did nothing wrong, remember what (ghackney) stated above its mother nature. Congrats on the litter....would like to see pics.

Congrats Adam, With Being one of the first to have a good number of Motleys, you deserve it. Best of luck with the rest of your stuff.
