My beccarii has been playing this game with me for the last month. He escapes and I find him, put him back and try to keep him in. He had several variations on how to escape. I think I finally made the modifications needed to keep him in.
The thing is, I've had him in the enclosure since January of this year with no problems. He never tried to escape, just a happy little male monitor. But NOOOOOO, I introduced a female (WC) and within a few days she gets out. She must have (shown/inspired/challenged) him to follow her and try to do the same. I took her out and placed her back in her quarantine enclosure to re-establish her feeding. It became a real "fun" game with my male however. I finally went on vacation and had the time to adjust the enclosure. Damn those (WC) females!!!!!! LOL……

All is well now.

I have a young crocodile monitor that pulled the same antics. It took me a few weeks to finally modify it to where he couldn't escape. He made a b-line for the closet everytime. Beautiful beccari, btw.
