Question About Redfoots

blup Jul 19, 2006 05:41 PM

I'm thinking about possibly getting a tortoise, and i was looking at a couple of redfoot pics. i notice that the babies have bright red barkings on their head, but the older tortoises, it seems to turn yellow? do the colors fade or something? thanks

You may be looking at two different types of redfoots. The ones with the bright red scales on their heads are "Cherryheads" and will keep that coloring on their heads. The other redfoots have yellow/orange scales on their heads and will keep that color throughout life.

I have regular redfoots and I prefer the yellow/orange color on the head. The cherryheads just seem to look angry when I see all that red on their faces.(they aren't of course) Just my preference. Tom
