Indigos

Hello, this is my first post...I've been into herps for over 45 years...in 1965 I got an (We called them Florida Indigos then) Eastern Indigo...it was my first snake...from Jim Hindee (sp?) in Florida.I found a dealer in the back of "Outdoor Life" magazine.....got a 5' very red female....then $10.00. She lived 16 years and I don't know her final age...probably 25 or so...I was a kid then and used to let her out of her cage and she would sit on the sofa and look around...didn't try to run off...these are the greatest snakes...
I am looking for another one and eventially a pair in the next year or so, I understand now you need to get on a waiting list...
In the 60's the FW Zoo had a big male eastern indigo and what was then called the Children's museum on Montgomery St. by the Art Museums had another sex unknown...to me at least..

Thank you for posting, as it is always great to hear from those who worked with D. couperi back in the day. You may wish to visit the breeders list at www.indigosnakes.com for a list of breeders and their contact information. Also, there are a couple of adds in the current classifieds section and both breeders posting there produce very nice animals...

Good luck and welcome back,

Jeff

What state do you live in??? A lot has changed since 1965 with regards to the legalities of acquireing, and keeping drymarchon couperi. Some states will hang your hide, some states don't care. And the Feds require a permit to buy, sell, or trade eastern indigos accross state lines,...which now costs a hundred bucks! Be sure and read all about it at the website Jeff mentioned. Welcome back! Be informed, and conform, and you'll be fine. Good luck, and good will!
