since iguanas do not pant or sweat, i was wondering how you could tell if an iguana is too hot? heavy breathing? mouth gaping? also, how can you tell when an ig is dehydrated? diarhea? bloating?
thanks!

lol! well thanks!
and hi again, andy!
The other reason people don't write back is because they're like me and don't turn their computer on during the weekends.
I think the milk in the ensure shake may have something to do with his bloating, or perhaps an overload of fiber. Unless the milk is part of the yogurt they added in... in any case, I know you can definately get beneficial bacteria that is dairy free. I saw it at a place called Whole Foods Market, which used to be called Fresh Fields. It's a health/organic grocery chain, also very good for finding nice greens.
Here are two addresses of places to find a herp vet. (Sorry only one is lit up, I don't know how to enter two in the "link URL" field below. )
Hope this helps...

well he hasn't BEEN on any ensure or milk products. the 'iguana milkshake' i put him on is 75% collard greens, 5% chopped veggies, 20% veggie baby food, and a bit of reptile vitamins. i just blended it all together and liquified it in the blender. it's basically what he would typically eat except it's mushy so it's easy for him to swallow.
and it's not just the weekend when people don't seem to post much . . .
Well, I was away this weekend, so I haven't had my PC on at all, but I agree, posting has very much slowed down on this list. I honestly don't know why, except for the reasons that I've stopped posting as much. There's been some very aggressive replies to some things I've posted, regardless of the topic, and regardless of accuracy of information. I'm often quite willing to post what *I* do, but I just don't want to deal with the ensuing posts saying assorted things about myself and my pets' quality of care. Btw, my ig, bearded dragon, ancient cat and 4 dogs are all in outstanding health, well cared for, trained, happy blah blah blah.
I keep hoping some of the others begin posting again, but having seen similar responses, who knows? I do know that there's plenty of people reading the list, and if a serious problem comes up they usually will post something, otherwise it stays quiet. I miss the updates on who's doing what, and getting new photos as well.
"but he's eating all the same things he always has - EXCEPT this new 'animal ensure' stuff the vet gave me. it's first few ingredients are alfalfa, oatfeed, wheat, wheatfeed, soya bean meal, peas, dried skimmed milk..."
Sorry I can't be much more helpful than to suggest stopping anything with dairy... when I got my ig, he was very bloated, due to being unable to move his bowels (MBD paralysis, broken legs). Perhaps your ig has an impaction, or a protozoan infestation. A vet would be able to tell you more than anyone on this forum; that'd be my next step, especially after the acute episode you described the other day, of Quincy "blowing up".
Hope others can give you better info, then.
ah i c. i had forgotten that he had been on that animal ensure stuff and that it had that dried milk crap in it. yeah he's been off that for several days now.
