TwoSnakes Jul 20, 2006 09:46 AM

Hi
Anyone use Exxo terra Large vines? I have never actually seen them except pics but they look nice not sure if they will rot,go bad if subjected to hudity so wanted to ask from those that have them.
If they are well made and dont fall apart and expose the wire ?

thanks

Yes I have them and I guess they are fine in humidity. However I had mine twisting through a water fall and then braced between some rocks under water and they did decay and the metal wire inside rusted. I had no idea they would do that and then I had rust in my water source! Not good for frogs, luckily I didn't use them.

They work great and look great as long as they aren't soaked. I did find another similar product by Flukers but not sure if they would do that too. It seemed more rubbery like water wouldn't penetrate it, but I wasn't willing to pay $22 to find out!

I meant to say "Luckily I didn't LOSE them" (not "use them" which obviously I did!)

Thanks a lot for the info . I am not going to get them now because the fact that yours did rust even though under the waterfall made me re think it.

I will just use reg branches they are fine just the vines I could shape but wont risk them rusting as I mist 2 or 3 times a day .

Thanks again

I do like the look, but I'd agree that I wouldn't have used them knowing what I know now, especially at the cost they are, and I used 2 twisted together.

I think it's mopapi? wood that is kind of twisted and I like in my tank.

oh ok you mean mopani thats sometimes sold as african driftwood didnt even think of looking at that but I have seen it before forgot all about it.

The fluker vines has wire inside to so opted not to get it the mopani is great idea tons sites sell it.
Thanks again if I ever breed an albino Grey treefrog your the first one on the list for it (granted it will cost $2,000) lol kidding.
Thanks

No problem, just glad to save someone the trouble I had. I'll have to pass on the frog, I have Red Eyes, also $2k is a little high for me for a frog, but thanks!

Seems there have been alot of recent threads on grays on repticzone, in the treefrog forum; they must be getting popular.

I put in reg bamboo branches that look great . I was just kidding about 2K for an albino lol.

Grays are popular because overall very easy do well in cooler temps than greens thus easier for Northern climates . Though my AC has been on 24/7 as to hot .
