Best substrate (with a heating pad)

turtlequest Jul 20, 2006 12:32 PM

What is the best substrate to use for a BP. I want the tank to remain clean, and attractive. The problem is I will be using an UTH (plug in heating pad). What substrate is compatible with a heating pad? Paper towels are my first choice, but what about: Newspaper? Aspen Bedding? Astro Turf?

Thanks.

Best is a subjective adjective.

As long as you use a proper thermostat (VERY IMPORTANT), all of the above will work fine.

What you prefer is probably best for you.

I use newsprint, FREE is always best to me. LOL

And I feel it truly is the easiest to use. JMO

Some say they have problems with this substrate (I never have), and prefer aspen.

Some prefer wood shavings for the aesthetics of it.

Again what you like is the best for you.

Try a few different substrates and see what you like best.

Also, UTH is not a problem, it is the most ideal heat source IMO, just make sure to get a good thermostat; cheepo units are only worth what you paid.

I use Ranco units on all my racks and am very happy with their performance.

Hope that helps
