Some suggestions please...

I have 2 Western adult females that I received on 5-31. Both females ate for me 3 times in the beginning, but now neither will eat, and both are losing weight. Well, the big female has not eaten since June 9th, and has gone from 263g to 236g. The other girl has not eaten in the same amount of time, but has only lost 8 g. Any thoughts on why they are fasting? I have tried keeping them seperate in steralite tubs, but they get very agitated, and do not calm down. The only time they are calm is when they are together in my big 3x2 cage (which is when they ate). Parasites are not the problem, as they have been treated. Any ideas or suggestions would be apperciated.

My female took a 7 month fast. Now she is eating 2 mice a week (for the last 20 days). I took her to the vet. He said she had a mouth infection (didn't look like it to me). A month after she was off of antibiodics she ate (but, this is when the temps in NJ started to get hot). I think all eating has to do with heat, at least in my experience's. It took me awhile to get the heat down, but if its too hot or too cold, they laugh at you when you put a mouse in front of them. Plus, I heard a month isn't anything.

Did you ever think that one "might" just be a male and they could possibly be parents to be?

Both are female, as my male locked up with both. If they are parents to be, then wouldn't the females be eating more?

Could they be gravid looking for a place to lay?

FloridaHogs Jul 20, 2006 05:19 PM

Could be gravid, but no prelay shed....humid hide is available.

Try contacting te person you got them from and see what has worked for them on these girls. I have done this a few times especially when they are older and do what they have done and it usually works. If not give them a little time and double check the temps and maybe make some slight changes and see if that works. Good luck and keep us posted.
